It's a new year, and with it, a post to discuss episode 1x05, The Sea Gate. As always, all spoilers are fair game.

The introductions of Scorpia, Sea Hawk and Mermista!

Mermista's mention of her dad makes me wonder what happened to all the princesses's parents - none of them are around, and Mermista's and Frosta's are implied to be dead. Did they all die in the first iteration of the alliance?

(This episode also reminds me that I enjoy how the role of The Responsible One is traded between Bow, Glimmer and Adora. I do enjoy the Best Friends squad)

Glimmer says at the meeting early on that Mermista's dad "retired." No hints on what happened to her mom, though.

I'll be looking for references to all the others now!

Gotta say, I appreciate that Seahawk's shirt has a boob window. And the parody of Han Solo's "bragging about finishing a course in under a short...distance," and his quick turnaround on losing the arm-wrestling match.

Mermista is a lot of fun, and I wish we had more episodes with her. Can't think of any other shows I watch that have a character type like her.

Scorpia is precious and darling and I'm glad we DO get a bunch more appearances from her.
